Mathias⁵ Diederich (John⁴, Johann Nicolaus³, Paul², Johann Nicolaus¹) was born 18 December 1854 at Town of Lawrence, Brown County, Wisconsin, the son of John and Anna (Clasen) Diederich. See Brown County birth records, v. 13, p. 19.

Mathias Diederich never married.

He died Saturday 21 July 1934, age 79, at the County Farm at Glen Flora, Rusk County, Wisconsin. The funeral was held the ____________________, at ___________ Church, _________, and he is buried next to his brother, John William, in an unmarked grave in the Catholic section of Riverside Cemetery near Ladysmith, Rusk County. His death is recorded in Rusk County death records, v. ____, no. _____.

DEATH OF MATT DIEDERICH

Matt Diederich, a resident of the county farm for several years, passed away at that place Saturday morning, after a lingering illness due to the infirmities of old age. Deceased was 79 Years of age at the time of his death. Short funeral services were conducted at the McElravy-Haasl Funeral Home Monday afternoon, with further services at St. Mary's Catholic Church; Father Phillip officiating. Interment was at Riverside Cemetery. During his lifetime, Mathias Diederich traveled through the west and eventually settled at or near Ladysmith. Toward the end of his life, he became a resident of the Rusk County farm.
